Message from Dr. Watkins Week of September 14

PTSA Open House

Parents please join us for Open House this Thursday, September 17, from 6:30-8:30 PM. Prior to Open House, there will be a Title I informational meeting from 5:30-6:30 PM. in the theater.


Synergy Parent Meeting and Assembly

Parents we ask that you check Synergy to get your student's schedule and that if possible only parents and guardians attend. Each grade level will have a 30 minute assembly in the theater in addition to visiting classes and getting information about Synergy in the Media Center.

Constitution Day

This Thursday, we are also celebrating Constitution Day. Students may wear appropriate jeans if they also wear a red, white and blue top.

Friday Dress Down Day

On Friday, students may dress down for $1 and pay $1 to watch the student basketball game during their Connections time.

K.I.D.S. Club 2015/16 dates have been announced! Registration coming soon!

 

The school year has started and we're excited to offer some great activities to further your student's STEM knowledge and interest.

With the new year comes some great new STEM activities. We're hard at work coming up with new and exciting experiments for our KIDS club sessions. Additionally, we're looking to develop a new LEGO-based program. Stay tuned for more information!

School Council Meeting

The School Council will meet this Thursday, February 12, at 8:00 AM in the main office.

Cooper Band Students Win Honors

Congratulations to Jonathan Webb and Devin Morrison who were both selected to perform in the GA Music Educator's Association District Band out of thousands of auditions.

Parent Chaperones Needed For Field Trip

Parent chaperones are needed for the upcoming 6th grade field trip to the Tellis Museum.  Permission slips and money are due this Friday.

Valentine's Dance

The Student Council's Valentine's Dance is this Thursday, from 4:30-6:00 PM. The cost is $3 before Thursday and $5 on Thursday. A signed permission slip is also required. Parents are needed to help chaperone the dance.

Kids Business Expo for Ages 12- 18

2015 is almost here and Summer PEAKS are in development.
We're working hard to put together a great lineup for this summer. Due to many campus collaborations, we are hoping to have our summer catalog ready by the end of January. Also, our application to go live in mid February!

K.I.D.S. Club Still has space!

The Holidays are over, bring your student down to explore some awesome STEM concepts. We still have a few spaces for 4th/5th for January 24, and plenty of spots for elementary students for February 21. Don't delay, these spots fill up fast! Our March 21 program will be offered in collaboration with the Atlanta Science Festival. registration will begin on the Atlanta Science Festival site on January 30. Testing This Week

Each day this week all 7th graders will be taking the Iowa Test of Basic Skills. It is very important that students come to school on time each day. 

PTSA Skate Night

The PTSA is sponsoring a skate night this Friday from 6-10 PM at Sparkles in Hiram. PTSA members will receive a discount, and the cost of joining the PTSA is only $6.

Chat -N- Chew

We will have our first Chat and Chew with the Principal on Thursday, October 23 at 9:30 AM in the Parent Resource Room.

Conference Week

Conference Week begins October 20. Parents may go ahead and visit the Cooper website or teachers' blogs to sign up for parent-teacher conferences. Students will be released each day at 2:15.

Atlanta CARES STEMfest Youth Conference at Georgia Tech - Early Registration Link

Atlanta CARES will host its third annual STEMfest Youth Conference  for middle and high school students at Georgia Tech on Saturday, November 29, 2014, from 9:00-3:00pm.
Students will have an opportunity to engage in hands on STEM activities, explore STEM careers, and interact with STEM professionals. In addition, Academic Solutions and College Prep workshops will be available for parents.

GA Tech Sponsors Weekend App Development & Robotics for MS & HS Students


Elementary School K.I.D.S. Club

Middle School, High School, and Parent Sessions
Introduction to Mobile App/Game Development

(iPhone & Android) 

COST: $60 per Saturday.
GRADES: 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th, Parents

DATES: October 18, 2014, November 8, 2014, December 13, 2014 & January 24, 2015, February 21, 2015, March 21, 2015
For the older students of all ages and parents, grades 6 and up, are all invited to register for Introduction to Mobile (iPhone & Android) App/Game Development without Programming. Come experience a unique opportunity to learn with your kids or while they participate in other K.I.D.S Club sessions. Have fun learning how to create the next "Angry Birds" or "Bubble Ball" sensation on the App Store.
All Mobile sessions are identical. Each student/session must be paid for separately. Parents and students grades 6-12 are invited to attend the Mobile Application and Game Development session. Each participant must register and pay the $60 fee. Programs run from 9am to Noon.

Dekalb History Center Sponsors Summer Camp

The DeKalb History Center is sponsoring a one-week junior docents camp  for kids ages 10 to 14  that will teach them how to do research, voice and diction, storytelling, and public speaking. The camp concludes on Friday where the campers will lead a tour for their parents and a young audience.
The camp takes place at the museum, which is located in the old DeKalb County Courthouse in downtown Decatur.

Teen Success Forum For Middle School Students


Teen Forum 2014
The Marietta-Roswell Alumnae Chapter (MRAC) of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. will host Teen Forum 2014 on Saturday, March 15, 2014 from 8:30am to 3:00pm at The Lovett School (4075 Paces Ferry Road, Atlanta, GA 30327). This day of educational workshops will concentrate on the theme “Designing You: Turn up for Success!” The event will focus on boosting teens’ self-confidence and helping them move forward toward greater success in life through interpersonal skills and career development.
